Atlanta police are investigating an incident that occurred this afternoon in the Villages at Cascade community. According to Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, authorities were alerted after reports that packages were being removed from the front porch of a townhome in the area.
When the homeowner confronted those involved, shots were fired. A 15-year-old was struck in the foot, while a second juvenile sustained more serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The homeowner is currently at Atlanta Police Department headquarters cooperating with investigators.
The incident took place shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Celeste Lane, located a short distance from Mays High School. By 6 p.m., multiple marked and unmarked APD units had arrived at the scene to secure the area and support the ongoing investigation.
Chief Schierbaum confirmed that officers are executing a search warrant at the residence as part of the probe into the events. Further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
