RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Community Mourns After Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Beloved Local Resident
The city of Russellville and all of Pope County are in mourning following the tragic death of 82-year-old George Sanborn, a longtime resident whose life was lost in a hit-and-run incident on Saturday evening, November 15, 2025. The heartbreaking news was confirmed by the Arkansas State Police (ASP), which identified Sanborn as the pedestrian who was fatally struck along State Highway 326 in the Happy Valley area.
A Tragedy That Shook the Community
Authorities say Sanborn was walking near his home when the incident occurred. Troopers with the ASP responded at approximately 6:45 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle traveling west on Highway 326.
Sanborn was airlifted to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock, where he succumbed to his injuries early Sunday morning.
Investigators say the vehicle involved is believed to have damage to its driver’s side, and the driver left the scene without rendering aid. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Troop J of the ASP.
Remembering George Sanborn
George Sanborn was more than a resident of Russellville — he was a man who touched the lives of his neighbors, his family, and the broader community with his quiet strength, his steady presence, and his genuine care for those around him.
At 82, he was a longtime member of the community, likely having built decades of memories, relationships, and contributions to local life. While intimate details of his personal history are less public, the sorrow and respect shown by those who knew him reflect a life lived with dignity and purpose.
He will be remembered as a friend to many, a familiar face in local circles, and someone whose passing leaves a void that cannot be filled.
The Loss Felt Across Pope County
For the Sanborn family, and for the many people whose lives he touched, this tragedy is deeply personal. The shock that a beloved member of their community has been lost in such a sudden, violent way has sent waves of grief far beyond his immediate circle.
Neighbors, friends, and local residents are offering solace — flowers, cards, and shared memories of a man they respected and cared for. Knowing that someone so valued can be taken so unexpectedly is a painful reminder of life’s fragility.
A Call for Justice and Healing
As the investigation continues, the community’s hope is that the driver responsible will be found and held accountable. But for now, Russellville is left grappling with questions and the need to find solace in each other.
The ASP has asked witnesses and anyone with information about the vehicle involved to contact them at 479-754-3096.
It is in these difficult moments that the strength of a community is tested — and Russellville has shown already signs of unity, compassion, and collective care for the Sanborn family.
An Enduring Memory
Though George Sanborn’s life ended in tragedy, his legacy remains. In the hearts of those who knew and loved him, his memory will live on — through stories shared, smiles recalled, and the very fabric of the community that he helped to shape.
His life may have come to an untimely end, but his impact endures.
May George Sanborn rest in peace.
May his family find comfort in the support of their community, and may healing begin in the days ahead.
