AUSTIN, Texas — Tragedy struck late Wednesday night in central Austin after a fatal crash on the upper deck of Interstate 35 claimed one life and disrupted traffic for several hours. According to the Austin Police Department (APD), the deadly accident occurred at approximately 9:03 p.m. in the 3800 block of northbound I-35, near the heart of the city’s busy downtown corridor.
Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of a vehicle traveling northbound lost control and collided with a concrete barrier along the elevated section of the freeway. The impact was severe, leaving the vehicle heavily damaged and prompting an immediate response from police, firefighters, and Austin-Travis County EMS.
Emergency responders worked swiftly to assess the situation and render aid, but despite their efforts, the driver — whose identity has not yet been released pending family notification — was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were reported to be involved in the crash.
