The Beaumont Police Department has released new details regarding an active investigation that began early on the morning of December 5, 2025. At around 7:48 a.m., officers were sent to the area of Frint Drive near Tyrell Park after receiving a call about an unresponsive individual.
When officers arrived, they located a woman along the side of the roadway. She was later identified as 33-year-old Laquanta Edwards. Detectives immediately responded to the location and began a detailed review of the circumstances surrounding her passing.
As investigators retraced her last known movements, they determined that Ms. Edwards had most recently been in the 2400 block of Ashley Street. While checking the surrounding neighborhood for additional information, officers found her vehicle in the 2300 block of Ashley Street.
Further examination of the area led investigators to a residence at 2454 Ashley Street, where they discovered indicators suggesting that a significant incident had recently occurred. The home was secured, and specialists from the Jefferson County Crime Lab processed the site for evidence.
Through their ongoing work, detectives identified 34-year-old Thaddeus McCray as the individual believed to be connected to the case. A warrant was issued for him by Judge Collins based on the information collected.
The Beaumont Police Department’s Special Assignment Unit (SAU) later located McCray’s vehicle at a residence on Euclid Street. With assistance from the Beaumont SWAT team, officers made contact with McCray, who cooperated and surrendered without further incident. He was taken to the Beaumont Police Department for interviews with investigators.
Authorities stress that the investigation remains active as detectives continue gathering information, reviewing evidence, and speaking with individuals who may have knowledge of the events.
The Beaumont Police Department is asking the community for assistance. Anyone who may have seen activity in the area or has helpful details is encouraged to contact 409-832-1234 or reach out anonymously to Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 833-TIPS (8477).
