The McCluer High School community and the greater North St. Louis County area are in mourning following the sudden and heartbreaking loss of 14-year-old Colin Hill, a bright, kind, and spirited ninth-grade student who tragically passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, after suffering a medical emergency at school.

According to school officials, the incident occurred during the school day, prompting an immediate emergency response from faculty and first responders. Despite the swift and heroic efforts of teachers, staff, and paramedics, Colin could not be revived. The news of his passing spread quickly throughout the district, leaving students, teachers, and families in a state of deep shock and grief.

In a statement, McCluer High School administrators expressed their profound sorrow and extended condolences to Colin’s family, describing him as “a bright young man whose enthusiasm, kindness, and determination made him beloved among his classmates and teachers.” The school has made grief counselors and support staff available to students and staff to help them process the devastating loss.

“Colin was the kind of student who made people smile,” said one of his teachers. “He was respectful, curious, and full of energy—someone who loved to learn and who had such a promising future ahead of him. His loss is something that none of us can fully comprehend.”

Friends and classmates have shared heartfelt tributes on social media, remembering Colin as a caring and joyful teenager who loved sports, music, and spending time with his friends. “He was always there for everyone,” one classmate wrote. “Even when you were having a bad day, Colin would find a way to make you laugh. It just doesn’t feel real that he’s gone.”

The entire Ferguson-Florissant School District, to which McCluer High belongs, has rallied around Colin’s family, offering emotional and spiritual support. In a public message, district leaders called his death “a profound tragedy that has shaken our entire community,” adding, “We are keeping Colin’s family, friends, and teachers in our thoughts as we grieve together.”

Neighbors and local faith leaders have also joined in offering comfort to the Hill family, organizing vigils and prayer gatherings to celebrate Colin’s life and surround his loved ones with compassion. A candlelight vigil is being planned at McCluer High School’s football field, where students and community members will gather to honor Colin’s memory and release balloons in his favorite color.

Though just 14 years old, Colin’s impact on those around him was extraordinary. His warmth, laughter, and kindness touched countless lives, and his absence leaves a void that words can scarcely describe. As his family navigates this unimaginable loss, the community stands beside them, united in sorrow and love.
