According to newly filed court documents, Officer Zabria Bridges was taken into custody and formally charged in connection with allegations involving severe mishandling of her dog, Layla, a Labrador Retriever mix. Officials stated that the incident is believed to have taken place in August, prompting an extended review by investigators.
A grand jury moved forward with an indictment last week, outlining claims that Layla experienced significant harm while in Bridges’ care. The paperwork, obtained by 11Alive, describes actions that reportedly left the dog with serious internal injuries and extensive trauma. The filing notes that Layla endured “severe or prolonged physical pain,” suggesting that the situation unfolded over more than a single moment.
