Deadly Shooting Reported on Detroit’s East Side: One Man Found Fatally Shot Inside Vehicle
Detroit, MI — Detroit police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred late Tuesday night on the city’s east side. Authorities say that around 9:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Larned Street following reports of gunfire in the area.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle parked along the street. Emergency medical services were immediately called to render aid, but despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly began canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage that could provide clues about what led up to the deadly encounter. Police have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of family members.
“At this point, we’re still working to piece together what exactly happened,” a Detroit Police Department spokesperson said. “We are asking anyone who may have seen or heard something unusual around 9 p.m. in this area to please come forward.”
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and no arrests have been made as of early Wednesday morning. Detectives from the Homicide Task Force are leading the investigation and are urging anyone with information to contact Detroit Police at (313) 596-2260, or to remain anonymous by reaching out to Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
The 2200 block of Larned, located near several residential buildings and small businesses, was temporarily blocked off as officers processed the scene late into the night. Evidence markers could be seen scattered near the vehicle as investigators photographed the area and collected shell casings.
Residents in the neighborhood expressed concern and frustration over the continued violence that has impacted many Detroit communities.
“It’s heartbreaking,” said one nearby resident who asked not to be identified. “You hear the sirens and you just pray it’s not someone you know. This has to stop.”
Police say the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
