EAGLE PASS, Texas — A tragic accident in Maverick County has left one woman dead and several others seriously injured after a vehicle crash that occurred over the weekend. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed that the crash resulted in multiple airlifts and a fatality, underscoring the severity of the incident.
According to Texas DPS, the driver of the vehicle was transported by ground ambulance to a hospital in Eagle Pass for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Two other passengers were flown via medical helicopter to University Hospital in San Antonio, where they remain under close medical supervision. A third passenger, identified as 31-year-old Samantha Serna, of Roma, Texas, was also airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio due to the critical nature of her injuries. Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, Serna was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities have not yet released the cause of the crash, but DPS troopers are continuing to investigate what led to the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that speed and road conditions may have played a role, though officials have not ruled out other contributing factors.
Friends and family of Samantha Serna are mourning her sudden and heartbreaking loss. Described as a warm and compassionate woman with a bright spirit, Serna was known for her kindness and love for her community. Messages of condolence have poured in on social media, with loved ones expressing deep sorrow and remembering her as someone who “brought light to every room she entered.”
Local residents say the crash serves as another painful reminder of the dangers on rural Texas highways, where high speeds and limited visibility can turn deadly in an instant. Community members in Roma and Eagle Pass have joined together in support of the victims and their families, offering prayers and assistance as they face a long road to recovery.
The Texas DPS has urged all drivers to remain vigilant, obey posted speed limits, and exercise caution on remote stretches of highway—especially at night or in unfamiliar areas.
As the investigation continues, one family grieves the loss of a beloved daughter and friend, while others fight to recover from an accident that changed their lives forever.
