EL PASO, Texas — Heartbreak has gripped the El Paso community following a deadly shooting that unfolded early Sunday morning, November 2, 2025, at the La Estancia apartment complex in East El Paso. The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) has identified the victim as 36-year-old Miguel Garcia, whose life was tragically cut short in what investigators describe as a violent confrontation that ended in gunfire.
Authorities also confirmed the arrest of 21-year-old Jaeveyin Antonio Porter in connection with the fatal shooting. According to police, officers from the EPPD’s Crimes Against Persons Unit responded to the apartment complex after receiving multiple reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers discovered Miguel Garcia suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel attempted to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Swift Investigation and Arrest
Detectives immediately launched an investigation, canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the complex. Within hours, police identified Porter as the primary suspect. He was taken into custody later that day without incident and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on charges related to the homicide.
While investigators have not yet disclosed a motive, preliminary information suggests the incident may have stemmed from a personal dispute that escalated into violence. Police continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews as they work to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
Community in Shock
Residents of the La Estancia complex and surrounding neighborhood expressed deep sadness and unease following the tragedy. Many described the area as typically quiet and peaceful, making Sunday’s shooting especially unsettling.
Friends and family of Miguel Garcia are now mourning the loss of a man remembered for his warmth, work ethic, and loyalty to those he loved. “Miguel was the kind of person who always showed up when you needed help,” said one neighbor. “To lose him this way is just devastating.”
Police Urge Public Cooperation
The El Paso Police Department continues to encourage anyone who may have seen or heard anything relevant to the investigation to come forward. Information can be shared confidentially with the department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit or through Crime Stoppers of El Paso.
As investigators work to bring closure to the family of Miguel Garcia, community leaders are once again calling for unity and calm, emphasizing the need for peaceful solutions to conflict and ongoing efforts to reduce gun violence throughout the city.
Miguel Garcia’s loved ones are left with an irreplaceable void, remembering him not for the way he died, but for the compassion, strength, and light he brought into the lives of others.
