Toledo Community Grieves 19-Year-Old Jasmine Queen Killed in South Reynolds Road Shooting

TOLEDO, OH — What began as a night meant for joy, laughter, and youthful celebration turned into a scene of heartbreak and devastation for the Toledo community. In the early hours of Sunday morning, gunfire erupted outside a business plaza on South Reynolds Road, claiming the life of 19-year-old Jasmine Queen and leaving two others injured. What should have been a carefree evening among friends has instead become another painful reminder of the toll gun violence continues to take on families and neighborhoods across the city.

According to the Toledo Police Department, officers were called to the 4 South Reynolds Road plaza, near the intersection of Hill Avenue, just after 3 a.m., following reports of multiple gunshots. When they arrived, they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. Jasmine Queen, a young woman described by friends as joyful, kind, and full of potential, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the shooting occurred following a disturbance that began inside The Weekend Restaurant and Lounge, a local nightlife venue located within the plaza. As the party ended and crowds began to spill into the parking lot, an argument reportedly escalated into gunfire, sending people scrambling for cover as panic spread through the crowd.

Detectives spent much of the morning marking shell casings, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses in hopes of identifying those responsible. As of now, no arrests have been announced, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

For Jasmine’s loved ones, the news is almost too painful to process. She was only 19 — a young woman at the threshold of adulthood, with her whole life ahead of her. Family and friends describe her as vibrant, loving, and deeply caring — someone whose laughter could fill a room and whose kindness touched everyone she met.

“She was the sweetest soul,” said one of Jasmine’s close friends. “She loved life and loved people. She had dreams — real dreams — and it breaks our hearts that she’ll never get the chance to live them.”

Jasmine’s family, surrounded by an outpouring of love and support, has asked for privacy as they navigate the unimaginable grief of losing their daughter. Community members have since created a memorial at the plaza — a small sea of candles, flowers, and photos where loved ones gather to mourn, remember, and pray for justice.

The shooting marks yet another tragedy in a city still struggling with the ripple effects of violence. Just hours before the deadly incident, Toledo police had already responded to separate shootings across the city, highlighting a troubling trend of gunfire disrupting what should be ordinary nights.

Toledo Police Chief Michael Troendle expressed his condolences to Jasmine’s family and emphasized the department’s commitment to finding answers. “This kind of violence tears at the fabric of our community,” he said. “We will do everything in our power to bring those responsible to justice. We owe that to Jasmine, her family, and every resident who deserves to feel safe.”

As news of her death spread, tributes to Jasmine began flooding social media. Friends shared photos, heartfelt messages, and memories of happier times — moments filled with laughter, music, and friendship. Many expressed frustration and despair at the persistence of violence in their city, pleading for peace and change.

“She had a beautiful heart,” one post read. “She didn’t deserve this. None of them do. We’re tired of losing our people — our youth — to senseless violence.”

Vigils are being planned in Jasmine’s honor, giving the community a space to grieve and stand together in solidarity against the violence that continues to claim young lives.

Though her life was tragically cut short, Jasmine Queen’s memory will live on through the love she shared, the joy she brought, and the countless lives she touched. As candles continue to flicker in her memory, Toledo mourns not only the loss of a promising young woman — but also the light, laughter, and future that were stolen far too soon.
