A devastating incident in DeKalb County that was first described as a tragic domestic episode has now taken a significant turn following further investigation by authorities. What police initially believed to be a murder-suicide has since been reclassified as a double homicide, with the lone survivor now facing serious criminal charges.
DeKalb County Police confirmed that 41-year-old Roland Sukoo has been formally charged with two counts of malice murder in connection with the incident. The case centers around a violent encounter that occurred inside a townhome located on Chatfield Drive, leaving a woman and a young girl without their lives.
When officers first responded to the scene early Friday morning, preliminary information suggested that a domestic dispute had escalated, resulting in the woman fatally harming the child, injuring the man, and then taking her own life. That initial account shaped the early understanding of the tragedy.
However, as detectives continued their work and reviewed evidence, officials said the facts no longer supported that version of events. In a late-night update released Friday, DeKalb County Police announced that new findings led investigators to determine the situation unfolded differently than first believed.
As a result of the updated investigation, Sukoo — who survived the incident — is now accused of being responsible for the deaths of both victims. Authorities have not yet released specific details about what evidence prompted the change in direction, citing the ongoing nature of the case.
