Early-Morning Loop 202 Incident Claims Motorcyclist’s Life in Tempe

Authorities in Tempe are sharing more details about a serious early-morning incident that occurred on Dec. 11 at the westbound Loop 202 on-ramp near Priest Drive. According to information from state officials, a motorcycle carrying two people encountered trouble as it entered the ramp. Investigators say the rider lost control, causing the motorcycle to fall onto the roadway.

Moments later, a passing vehicle made contact with the downed motorcycle and its rider. The impact proved fatal for the motorcyclist, despite emergency crews responding promptly to the scene. The second person on the motorcycle, a passenger, sustained minor injuries and received medical attention.

The on-ramp and surrounding lanes were temporarily closed while the Department of Public Safety conducted its investigation and cleared the area. The freeway has since fully reopened, restoring normal traffic flow for morning commuters.

Officials continue to review the circumstances to better understand what led to the initial loss of control. The community is encouraged to prioritize roadway awareness, especially during early morning hours when visibility and traffic patterns can be unpredictable
