FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Authorities in northern Virginia have confirmed that the man who had been the focus of an extensive search since early December has been located after his car was discovered in the Occoquan River area of Fairfax County.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), members of the Special Operations Division’s dive team located a red Toyota Camry on Monday, Dec. 8, near the 10700 block of Old Colchester Road in Lorton. Inside the vehicle, officials found 79-year-old Quang Hang of Chantilly, whose disappearance had prompted widespread concern throughout the region.
Mr. Hang was last seen on Dec. 1 after leaving his home around 2:30 p.m. to head toward Leesburg for a scheduled vehicle inspection. When he did not return later that day, his family immediately began reaching out for help. As the hours passed and loved ones became increasingly alarmed, authorities elevated the situation to a Critical Missing alert on Dec. 3, noting that there were important medical factors involved and emphasizing the urgency of locating him.
Over the following days, community members, local agencies, and regional partners joined efforts to trace his whereabouts. His case drew significant attention due to his age, the circumstances of his last known activity, and the potential health considerations.
The recovery of the vehicle and the confirmation from officials mark a somber end to a search that had stretched across multiple jurisdictions. Police stated that the investigation is continuing as they work to understand the sequence of events leading up to the discovery. The department also extended appreciation to all who assisted and shared information throughout the effort.
Family, friends, and community members are now reflecting on Mr. Hang’s life and the impact he had on those around him, as loved ones gather to support one another during this difficult time.
