CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A heartbreaking situation unfolded in Clayton County on Thanksgiving Day involving 16-year-old Taylor Hamilton, a young woman described by friends and relatives as someone “everyone saw as their big sister.” Taylor recently marked her birthday on November 4, just a few weeks before the incident that ended her life.
According to her mother, Nandi Hamilton, Taylor spent Thanksgiving at a residence on Wentworth Drive in Ellenwood. Nandi explained that her daughter went only because a close friend encouraged her to come along, and that Taylor did not personally know most of the people at the gathering. What was meant to be a simple holiday visit took a tragic turn.
Authorities say a 15-year-old, Adonis Alkarim, has now been taken into custody and is being legally processed as an adult in connection with the event that led to Taylor’s passing. Officials allege that an altercation occurred and escalated in a way that resulted in severe harm to Taylor, ultimately causing her loss of life.
Taylor’s mother says her daughter had been navigating difficult emotions in recent months after losing her boyfriend, 16-year-old Dequavious Royalston, earlier in the fall. Royalston’s life ended on September 1 in an incident inside his home, where a family member reportedly mistook him for someone breaking in. Taylor, who cared deeply for him, was devastated by what happened.
In the months that followed, Nandi says that Taylor had been dealing with unkind comments from other teens about Royalston’s death. She believes that this ongoing harassment may have contributed to the tension that built up at the Thanksgiving gathering—tension that ultimately spiraled into the tragedy.
Family members describe Taylor as a bright, dependable, and loving young woman whose presence anchored those around her. Now, her family and community are left trying to come to terms with the sudden loss and searching for healing after a chain of events that took away a girl they cherished.
