PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. — Authorities in Prince George County have confirmed the passing of a local man who had been the focus of a missing-person search earlier in the week. The individual, identified as 64-year-old Victor Rankins, had been reported missing shortly after he was released from Riverside Regional Jail.
According to information shared with Crime Insider’s Jon Burkett, Rankins was located behind the facility after an extensive effort to determine his whereabouts. Officials noted that his last known sighting was on Monday, December 1, at around 10 p.m., when he left the jail following his release.
On Thursday, December 4, Prince George County Police made a public appeal through social media, asking for assistance in locating Rankins. The post explained that he faced significant health and mobility challenges, including partial vision loss and dementia, raising additional concern for his well-being.
Only a few hours after the appeal was circulated, authorities confirmed that Rankins had been found and that the situation had reached a tragic conclusion. Investigators are now working to determine how the events unfolded and what may have contributed to his final moments.
Community members and loved ones are left mourning the loss, while police continue reviewing the circumstances to provide clarity and support to the family during this difficult time.
